Arriving In Victoria

Victoria 2011

After spending 24 hours in Victoria, I am absolutely in love. Its green, its by the ocean, the air smells like flowers. The university is pretty, the programs sound great, and there's a beach near by. The best part is, there's also rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, and surfing. I mean, what's not to like?

On the other hand there's Ubc. Vancouver is a bigger city, I've got family there, and its still by the ocean. Whistler, Squamish, and Grouse Mountain are all a bus ride away. And of course there's the prestige thing. I honestly don't know if prestige is a big deal or not. Personally it doesn't matter to me unless it actually makes a difference to future employers...

Anyway, what can I say... Victoria is amazing. My flight arrived in the evening, and I was lucky enough to have a very friendly bus driver on the way to the campus. There was only three of us on the bus, so we ended up getting a tour of the area around the university. The neighbourhoods are stunning; small houses surrounded by elaborate gardens and tall trees.

Upon arriving at the campus we went for a wander. Coming from a big city in Alberta, I'm always amazed at how green everything is on the West Coast. The campus was beautiful, and covered with bike paths. The residence wasn't so bad either. Both sides of the room were identical with matching single beds and good sized closets. Overall it looked like I could probably live there for a year. After the first night things were looking promising :)
