In just a few weeks I'll be heading off to Spain for two weeks, one of those weeks being spent at a language school in Cadiz. When I tell people this, they wonder how on earth I can afford it, or assume my parents are paying for the trip. After all, I'm a jobless high school student, where on earth would I find the money for such a trip.
The truth is, travel is cheaper than you think. I didn't mooch off my parents, I am paying for the trip 100% on my own. Where did the money come from? I saved it. Simple as that. By doing odd jobs around the house, coaching speed skating once a week, and saving nearly all my birthday and Christmas money, I am able to pay my own way after a little over a year of saving.
Granted, I live at home; therefore I don't pay rent or buy my own food. On the other hand... I made about $25 a week. Thats nothing. Many people spend that much or more at Starbucks. So many people say they would travel if only they had enough money. I don't believe in this excuse. If you want to travel, you will find a way; its as simple as that. Saving money isn't hard, you just have to be willing to make a few sacrifices. Just do it! Don't buy that shirt, make your own coffee, pack a bag lunch. Whatever it takes, I can promise... It's so worth it
